PodThis vs ElevenLabs GenFM
ElevenLabs GenFM turns a document or URL into a two-host conversation or a one-host bulletin whose text you can edit, but it needs a paid ElevenLabs plan and publishing is up to you. PodThis has a free plan, also starts from a topic, and lists every public episode in an RSS feed. Facts as of October 2026.
GenFM is the "Generate a podcast" workflow inside ElevenLabs Studio, not a separate product, so its pricing is ElevenLabs pricing.

Where ElevenLabs GenFM is the better choice
- Editing before audio. You edit the generated text, then export. PodThis does not let you edit the generated script before it is voiced.
- Voices. The ElevenLabs voice library, custom voice slots that grow with the plan, and Professional Voice Cloning from Pro. PodThis has no voice cloning, by policy.
- Input formats. EPUB, PDF, TXT, HTML, DOCX, XML and FDX files, a URL, or an existing Studio project.
- If you already pay for ElevenLabs. GenFM comes with the subscription you have.
Where PodThis is the better choice
- A free plan that includes podcasts. 5 credits on sign-up and 3 a month, no card. ElevenLabs has a free plan, but GenFM requires a paid subscription.
- Publishing. Every PodThis creator has an RSS feed. ElevenLabs is a voice platform; its pages do not state a podcast feed or directory publishing for GenFM.
- Starting from a topic. One sentence is enough; PodThis researches before it writes. GenFM starts from a document, a URL or a project.
- A cast per style. 12 styles, each cast for its kind of episode. GenFM has two formats: host and guest, or host alone.
Languages
ElevenLabs put GenFM at 32 languages in its December 2024 announcement. PodThis offers 70 languages on every plan. Both counts are the vendors’ own.
Which one to use
If you already pay for ElevenLabs and want to shape the dialogue line by line, GenFM is right there. If you want to start free, start from a topic, or end with an episode people can subscribe to, use PodThis. See pricing, the study guide use case, and the NotebookLM alternatives page for the wider field.
How this page was made
Every fact in the table was read from the vendor’s own pricing, help or product page on the date in the table footer, and each row links to its page. Where a vendor does not state something, the cell shows a dash rather than a guess. We make PodThis, so it is described from its own public pages by the same rule. ElevenLabs’s own site is elevenlabs.io; prices and features change, so check there before you buy.
