Acceptable use and content policy

By Martin Andersen, founder of PodThis · Last updated

This page says what you can and can't make with PodThis, and what happens to episodes about sex and adult life. It is part of our Terms of Service, which also list the other content we don't allow: hate speech, harassment, illegal content, terrorism, dangerous misinformation, deepfakes and anything that endangers children.

Sexual and mature content

PodThis sorts episodes about sex into three groups.

General: no restriction

Sex, health and relationships as a subject of information, history, science or culture, told without sexual detail. For example the history of the contraceptive pill, puberty explained for parents, or the Stonewall riots. These episodes can be public like any other.

Mature: allowed, but kept private

Episodes whose subject is sexual for an adult audience, such as sexual practices, fetish lifestyles, erotic relationships or a romance with intimate scenes that aren't described in detail. You can make them, and they stay yours:

  • The most a mature episode can be is unlisted: anyone you send the link to can listen, but it is never public.
  • It doesn't appear anywhere on podthis.co: not in discover, picks, search, sitemaps, your public profile, RSS feeds or listening statistics.
  • The episode page is not shown to search engines and carries a "Mature" label.
  • We e-mail you when an episode is classed as mature, with the reason and how to ask for a review.

Explicit: not allowed

Content written for sexual gratification: detailed descriptions of sex acts, audio meant to arouse, or sexual role-play addressed to the listener. PodThis refuses to make it before any credits are used. The reason is our providers' terms: the payment provider that sells PodThis plans and the AI models that write and voice the episodes both forbid sexually explicit content. Graphic sexual violence and sexual humiliation are refused whatever the framing.

Anything sexual involving a minor is refused, recorded and reported to the authorities. Repeated attempts to make refused content close the account.

How we decide

An automatic check reads the topic and the script and puts each episode in one of the three groups. When it isn't sure, it chooses the stricter group, and a person can correct that on request. If someone reports a public episode for sexual content, we hide it until we have looked at it.

Asking for a review

If you think we got it wrong, reply to the e-mail or write to support@podthis.co with the link to the episode. We answer within 7 days. If the review finds the episode is general, the limits are lifted and you can make it public again. We don't publish anything for you. If the decision stands, we tell you why.
